BroomeApril 27-30, 1999
We drove from Karinjini to Broome and didn't run out of gas once! It was a twelve-hour
long day, with only about one-hour total time stopped (petrol, potty breaks, etc.). In
Broome we got one day and two nights of civilization. We saw two movies at the world's
oldest, outdoor picture garden. We ate Chinese food (and eating anything else we could get
our hands on that was not from a can). We spent an afternoon not doing a thing at Cable
beach, which, according to Rochelle, was one of the world's top ten beaches. It did have
nice sand.
From Broome, we drove to Halls Creek, a seven-hour drive, and the home of the
famous "Flight over the Bungle Bungle Mountains." The flight was full and this
left our fragile traveling companion shattered. In pieces, she set out to right (or
Wright) her log-book/photo album. She arranged for us to get her to Turkey Creek pronto
where a second, and slightly less famous, "Flight over the Bungle Bungle
Mountains" had reportedly been sighted. She finagled her way, like only a Jewish girl
from Miami can do, onto a helicopter and was off on a flying tour before we could say,
"Don't forget your airsickness tablets!" Poor and broke, Jeff and Mike, were
land locked, but gave Ro the digi-camera so we could do some viewing, vicariously, through
Worldy Ro and show all of our beloved, Timezone7 fans, the aerial sights.
